It's been repeated over and over again, but aparently what Namibians miss when going abroad are mainly specific food stuffs - sometimes not even things that are patricularly "Namibian". Think of Rooibos tea, biltong, droewors or Walvis Bay oysters, just to name a few.
But what about the "real Namibian kitchen" then? Even obtaining basic stuff like maize meal of the right consistency just to get that "millie pap" right for the next "braai" (which degenerates into a simple "barbequeue" to all those that never had the pleasure to visit one in Namibia and as such have no chance to spot the subtle differences) can result in a rather lengthy shopping frenzy (let's not even talk about finding parking lots if you happen to live in a bigger city).
But how would you know what you need, if you don't even have the recipe at hand? Fear not, that's where the
Namibian Cuisine Wiki comes to the rescue. Or at least that's what I thought - the opening page was looking as sumtiously appetising as it ever could, but when I attempted to follow the links, most of the times I only ended up with a link to an article template, but no content.
Now with enough visitors to my little blog here to at least fill a smaller coffee table each week, I thought it might be a good idea to get you folks a bit involved in "fleshing out" this Wiki a bit. After all, we can all very easily complain (and yes, I thoroughly miss bothy my bikltong as well as my droerwors too), but it takes a little more effort to get things rolling yourself (with this blog being no exception)...
